Picross 3D: Round 2Solve 3D puzzles to find hidden objects in Picross 3D: Round 2 for Nintendo 3DS family systems. In this game, use the numbers on the blocks to work out which ones to paint and solve the puzzles. There are over 300 puzzles to beat. Can you uncover the object in each one? This time, blocks can be painted with two colours, so there are even more elaborate objects to discover. Picross 3D is the single player sequel to the popular Picross DS puzzle game. The original game was a number-based grid puzzle that challenged players to reveal a hidden picture. Picross 3D ratchets up the challenge, moving the action into three dimensions. Blending the logical challenge of a sudoku puzzle with the excitement of discovering hidden images, Picross 3D is a must-have for any.
Verdict: It’s brilliant. Picross 3D is simple, fun, and doesn’t get old. Winning is entirely up to you–the data is all right in front of you, you just need to uncover it. This is puzzle gaming at its best.More information: If you played the Nintendo DS hit Picross then you’ll know exactly what Picross 3D is.
Basically you are presented with a 3D shape within a block and you need to use numerical clues to chip away until you reveal the shape inside. (For those into puzzles, it’s a 3D nonogram.) It seems easy–and it can be–but the blocks get larger, the shapes get more complex, and you get less numerical data to work with.

The example above shows complete data, but a typical puzzle might just have a fraction of that. This means you have to work with the information you do have and then go from there. You are timed and you are allow four errors (four chances to destroy blocks that should not be removed) before you need to restart. The game offers easy controls and the most user friendly 3D object manipulation that I’ve ever used. It works mostly with the stylus and then button (right or left handed) to protect a block or destroy it.
The game is made to be picked up and played and put right back down when you’ve had enough. This is a game like Tetris or Minesweeper–a classic puzzler that you pretty much can’t dislike. You don’t have to be smart to do it or good with numbers, just patient and logical. The games wants you to win and it presents you with all the time and information you need to do so, it just tries to give you a good brain tease along the way.Picross 3D is just about flawless. If anything could be improved I’d like to see some slightly better music and the ability to hop right into more difficult puzzles. The difficultly ramps up very gradually, which is nice for non-gamers, but you need to put some time in before you can get at any tough puzzles.
The game is just about frustration free, though some puzzles are artificially made harder by ending with a single fault. These force you be slow and methodical, but you might have to attempt them more than once.
